HRW Oncology team at at ASCO Conference18.07.2017
This year, HRW was delighted to be able to join the hustle and bustle of this year’s American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Conference, which took place from 2nd to 6th June 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. In attendance for the week were our very own Fenna Gloggner (Head of Client Relations) and Kirsty Page (Senior Research Manager), two members of the Oncology Excellence Team within HRW. The two of them returned energised and inspired with plenty of new data and learnings about new and promising treatment approaches to share with the rest of the company.
With so much to see and do at the Conference, Fenna and Kirsty were able to dive right in and enjoy a completely immersive experience, from educational sessions, to poster discussions, from abstracts to plenary presentations. The exhibitor stands themselves were also particularly impressive, with most offering engaging and gamified interaction opportunities, such as ‘build your own biosimilar’ as well as the opportunity to enjoy many edible treats. The heavy presence of Virtual Reality this year across a number of exhibits really stood out, allowing attendees the opportunity to ‘digitally dive’ into treatments or explore modes of action. Only Fenna managed to quickly grab the opportunity to try out the VR due to the long lines; the tech clearly engages physicians, which very much aligns with our own experience as we set out to explore the value of VR in today’s world of market research.
Sore feet from exploring the huge space filled with company exhibits, heavy nylon bags weighed down not only with pharma pipeline information and abstracts from newly published studies but also with buttons, fridge magnets and 3D effect postcards conveying the details behind PDL-1 testing, were a small price to pay for having the opportunity to not only meet with many of our clients but also rub shoulders with 31,000 physicians whose excitement and enthusiasm to come together to share and absorb the latest scientific and clinical data and evolve their own treatment approaches was palpable in many of the sessions.
This opportunity for Fenna and Kirsty to be so well placed and in the thick of the action in such a dynamic treatment area, learning about cutting edge science and future pipeline opportunities, meant that they, and the rest of HRW, feel so privileged to have had this early insight into future developments. ASCO 2017 had so much to offer HRW, and we are exceptionally glad that we spent this week in Chicago; what we learnt in such a short amount of time makes us even more excited to continue working in the oncology space!
