Social media listening can often be a solution for understanding ‘the voice of the patient’, however it is also subject to social desirability bias as nowadays, people tend to post what’s socially acceptable rather than what they’re really feeling. Instead, patients turn to ‘Dr. Google’ with more honest concerns before reaching out to their healthcare professional. At HRW, we tested this hypothesis and ran a pilot study contrasting the outputs on social media listening and Google trends analysis.
